Royal Rehab has rapidly adopted new telehealth methods to deliver rehabilitation support to clients during the COVID-19 pandemic. In March alone, phone consults increased by 28 per cent and video consults increased by a remarkable 1112 per cent compared to the month prior!
Telehealth has been a great option for Joanne to receive her physiotherapy on the Home Based Rehabilitation program. Due to a pre-existing medical condition, Joanne was advised by her doctors to isolate at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she had only recently returned home from an eight-month stay in hospital, so was anxious about her discharge home with reduced level of function.
Reflecting on the telehealth sessions, Joanne reports,
“Virtual physio has been such an excellent tool during self-isolation to continue my physiotherapy and give me confidence. The fact that the physio can see me and talk me through the treatment via the iPad is wonderful!”
Joanne was the first client Physiotherapist Stephanie began delivering services to via telehealth.
“Telehealth means I can continue to deliver our weekly sessions to my clients such as Joanne safely whilst still being able to encourage, watch and correct technique. It has been a rapid rollout to a digital mode of delivery, but I am very proud our clients are making great functional gains, and importantly that they are happy with the service,” said Steph.
Royal Rehab is still providing in person visits for those that require them, with strict screening processes in place to minimise risks to staff and clients around the COVID-19 pandemic.
