Join Royal Rehab Sexuality Service Senior Speech Pathologist Vanessa Arratia, and Psychosexual Therapist Arlyn Owens, for a thought provoking deep dive into Speech Pathology, disability and sexuality.

Every discipline has a unique role to play in the area of rehabilitation and sexuality- this session explores the role of Speech Pathology in disability and sexuality.

About the presenters

Vanessa (She/Her) is a Senior Speech Pathologist currently working across the Royal Rehab Sexuality Service and the Brain Injury Community Rehab Team. Vanessa has more than 7 years of speech pathology experience and has worked with adults in inpatient and community rehabilitation settings as well as palliative care.

Vanessa is the inaugural Sexuality Service Speech Pathologist and enjoys supporting clients with their communication goals around sexuality, intimacy and navigating the complex social interactions of relationships and dating.

Arlyn Owens (He/Him) is a Clinical Nurse Consultant in Psychosexual Therapy. He has a Bachelor of Nursing and a Master’s in sexual health and reproduction (Psychosexual Therapy). As a self-proclaimed professional development addict, he is also a student of Gestalt therapy working towards his psychotherapy post-graduate qualifications. Prior to working at the Royal Rehab Sexuality Service, Arlyn worked in primary health, sexual health and critical care specialties as a Registered Nurse.

Arlyn is a member of the Society of Australian Sexologists (SAS), Australasian Sexual Health and HIV Nurses Association (ASHHNA), and student member of Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
