Second Base – Sexuality and Sexual Wellbeing

Join Candice Care-Unger and Arlyn Owens from Royal Rehab’s Sexuality Services to develop additional skills in the area of human sexuality.

Let’s talk about Sex.

This is a one day workshop building on the “First Base” content delivered in May and October 2022.

“Second Base” is aimed at health professionals working in neuro disability, rehabilitation and chronic health conditions.

“Second base” Participant learning objectives include:

  • Develop a broad understanding of human sexual response
  • Critique the impact neurological injuries, illness and chronic health conditions have on sexual response
  • Explore sexual consent in the context of intimate relationships and capacity
  • Develop further skills in sexual health assessment, screening, intervention and referral
  • Learn evidence based interventions for working with common challenges in sexuality and neuro disability, rehabilitation and chronic health conditions
  • Explore strategies for working with families or care givers whose attitudes are not sex positive and can create barriers for safe sexual expression

This workshop will involve didactic presentation, videos, discussion, reflection, role play and skill acquisition.

This is a sex positive, inclusive workshop.

All activities are fully clothed, and there is no intimate touch involved.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience and all disciplines. There will be assumed knowledge from the “First Base” workshop offered in May and October.

“Second Base” builds on those foundations for more advanced skills. These workshops do stand alone as separate workshops.
